Paul George (Team USA) suffer a freak accident breaking his leg | VIDEO

Indiana Pacers forward Paul George suffered a freak injury during a US national men’s basketball team showcase game, fracturing his right leg in gruesome fashion after an unfortunate landing while making a defensive play on Friday in Las Vegas.

The incident happened in a scrimmage between the participants of Team USA’s Las Vegas training camp, which would determine their lineup for the FIBA World Cup.



George, who was one of the favorites for a spot on the squad, was challenging a shot by James Harden in transition when his foot landed awkwardly on the post of the basket and snapped the lower part of his leg.

The rest of the game was scrapped after the injury.

The athletic forward will likely miss the rest of the training camp as well as the World Cup, which will begin later this month.

This injury is another blow to the US basketball program, which saw some high-profile withdrawals in Blake Griffin and Kevin Love.
