Gilas Pilipinas Far from ready | Fiba Asia Cup

Gilas Pilipinas coach Chot Reyes has set his expectations low for the 2014 FIBA Asia Cup from July 11 – 19 in Wuhan, China as the national team has had only seven practices going into it.

In an interview with GMA News Online, Reyes said Gilas Pilipinas is “far from ready” but he also said that after China they will have “more time for practice...and have the whole team” before going to Spain in August for the FIBA World Cup.

The Philippines is in Group B with Chinese Taipei, Jordan and Singapore at the Asia Cup.

The national team was in Barangay Laging Handa in Quezon City Tuesday evening for a send-off event with corporate sponsors Max's Restaurant and Nestle' Milo.

Last Sunday, the team won their tune up game against the Westports Malaysia Dragons, 85 – 81, at the Meralco Gym.

The national squad's program from July to August is crammed with a training camp in Miami, Florida and nine tune up matches—some of which will be in Spain and some in France.

Gilas Pilipinas will be in Seville, Spain for its opening World Cup game on August 30 against Croatia.

The other preliminary round Group B matches will be on:

August 31, 2014 – Philippines vs Greece
September 1, 2014 – Philippines vs Argentina
September 3, 2014 – Philippines vs Puerto Rico
September 4, 2014 – Philippines vs Senegal

The Top 4 teams from Group B will meet the Top 4 teams in Group A in the 2nd Round.
