Retiring Jimmy Alapag set to take on A new role

Jimmy Alapag is bidding adieu to the Philippine Basketball Association.

The Talk ‘N Text team captain has decided to call it quits after playing for nearly 12 years with the Tropang Texters and is set to take on new responsibilities within the Philippine national men’s basketball team and his pro team.

He will be one of the assistant coaches of newly-installed Gilas Pilipinas coach Tab Baldwin while also serving as team manager of the Tropang Texters.

“It’s just time for me. I leave Talk ‘N Text and Gilas in great hands,” Alapag wrote in a text message to InterAksyon.com.

Alapag was a former Most Valuable Player and Rookie of the Year awardee. He will retire as the second best three-point shooter in PBA history with 1,177, next to Allan Caidic.

But for Alapag, it’s also the best time to embark on a new career within the MVP Group.
